IMRE has made a breakthrough in lens technology which will significantly impact applications in optical systems and precision instruments such as digital cameras and mobile phone cameras that require precise and compact focusing with zoom mechanisms. The lens is cheaper to make, has optical zooming abilities and uses only a fraction of the space of most conventional lenses.
Called fluidlens, the liquid lens was invented by exploiting IMRE's strength in materials R&D. To date other liquid lens researchers have been using electrical voltage to alter the curvature of the lens so that it can focus and zoom in on an image. The electrical components however, take up precious space. IMRE's approach differs from the others as it does not rely on electricity to operate the lens.
利用液體做的體透，看了一些網站，目前也有許多家公司在發展，國內公司好像是萎光吧，國外也有許多的公司。因為之前在學校也有想到這液體透鏡的製程，但是礙於許多的原因，所以就沒有繼續下去，而往別的方向發展，這個議題，好像也滿久了，在找E-PAPER時，剛好看到這個東西，就順手貼上來了。
利用液體的好處為可批次製造而節省成本、體積小，更可以達到變焦的功能，雖然時間不是很快，但是為可以接受的範圍。一般傳統的透鏡，需要一些機件搭配才能變焦，而使用MEMS製作的，可直接使用致動器來作動而變焦。
